Our Focus: incubating innovations to make African agriculture more efficient, like, alleviating Post Harvest Losses (PHL), financial innovations, and vocational training.
There are many opportunities for investment in the African agriculture sectors. For example, a good percentage of Africa’s post-harvest production is lost due to poor storage and transport conditions. There are individuals in the diaspora who have various experiences as engineers, scientists, planners, who could provide expertise in this area for individuals looking to set up cold-storage or dry-storage business. This is just one example, there are many others.
Here is a great example of an African solution to African problem, Pot-in-Pot Cooler - a refrigeration device which keeps food cool without electricity by using “evaporative cooling”
Here is a list of opportunities and challenges in the agriculture vertical one could build a sustainable business on. This list is not contingent upon one working with DAIN Network; these are just some ideas and challenges we see as business opportunities for the general public in Africa.
Here are some ideas in Post Harvest Losses, which we would be interested in incubating:
- Tropically tolerant packaging *
- Cold Storage/Dry storage
- Food system value chains/supply chains
- Fleet management/transport
